Stay safe this summer

A person thrashes around in the water, as they’re pulled below the waves. The lifeguard blows their whistle, and dives into the water.

The water is a busy place for lifeguards in the summer. A study published a few months ago reviewed articles on drowning prevention and found many different strategies to prevent drownings. One way is to take swimming lessons to develop better swimming skills before heading into the water. Another way is to wear a flotation device, such as a lifejacket, while out on the water.

The next time you head out for a swim, consider whether your swimming ability is up to the task, and wear a lifejacket if not.
