A way to prevent injury in youth athletes

The baseball player reaches back, the softball player winds up and the lacrosse player runs upfield. But before each player takes the field, they perform a warmup to get ready for the game. Often a pre-game warmup includes different exercises related to the sport. However, a recent study finds that an injury prevention program, which can be included in a warmup, helps reduce the risk for injury. In this study, the researchers reviewed different injury prevention programs and their effect on injury risk among young athletes. The researchers found that most injury prevention programs reduced the risk of injury among young athletes, most notably programs that involved lower body exercises. As such, the effectiveness of injury prevention programs may be something to consider for the next pre-game warmup.
